How 'Insightful Potecy' works?

So, obviously the Potency enhancement bonus does not stack with specific element bonues, such as Glaciation.

Example:
- Potency +30
- Glaciation +50
....Result: only+50 to cold spells

---------------
But what happens when you add Insightful Potency into the mix?

Example:
- Potency +30
- Glaciation +50
- Ins. Potency +5
....Result: +50 to cold spells? or +55 to cold spells?

it does stack with Glaciation. It does not stack with Insightful glaciation. Same for quality potency - it does not stack with individual quality spellpower. You can pretend potency is the same glaciation, combustion, corrosion, ... combined

Potency is each spellpower combined with a generally lower value than you get with an individual spellpower item.
Equipment, Insightful, Quality, Profane, Artifact, Exceptional, Psionic, etc are different types of bonuses and do stack.

In your example it would be 55 to Cold and 35 to all others.
If you added Ins. Glaciation +10, then it would be 60 Cold, and 35 to others because both are Insightful bonuses and it will use the higher value when appropriate.

As PraetorPlato described above. You can see the bonuses much more clearly in a text window with the "Effects" option turned on. When you equip an item, it'll show what bonuses you're getting and any conflicts.

Also be *very* careful when attempting to stack effects. Too many items with "Universal Spell Power" effects listed are *not* providing Universal Spell Power effects.

Examples:
Every source of "Exceptional Universal Spell Power" in DDO is actually applying an Exceptional Potency effect. This is why the Elyd Charm doesn't stack with Clouded Dreams. This affects Clouded Dreams, and Dinosaur Bone crafting.

Not every set bonus provides an Artifact bonus to Universal Spell Power. Both the Epic and Legendary Saltmarsh Explorer sets provide bonuses to individual spellpowers. This is great if you're using the Esoteric Initiate set, because that set actually is a bonus to USP.

This is really annoying because when devs don't use their own terminology correctly, it makes the game more confusing to players.

Using combustion as example.

Combustion and insightful combustion is the same as potency and insightful potency, and does not stack.

Universal spellpower is not the same, and stacks with potency or combustion.

Normal potency is almost useless. You really need to be a diverse caster to want it.

Insightful potency can be useful. Insightful spell power for your main flavor isn't too hard to get. Fitting in more than 1 flavor can be difficult though.

Quality potency is great. Quality spell power of your main flavor is only a tiny bit better. Gear Tetris makes this choice for me.
