Illithid Invasion - Constructive Feedback

I liked the event. It was something new. It had a solid base concept. Sure, it was not perfect. I can see that the thralls were to heavy but the hunt was kinda fun. I would have liked clues scattered around that hinted at quests. Maybe some NPC dialoge that changed and referred to the event.
The endquests have new tactics and are short. At least 1 is a pita to solo but I can live with that.
The only thing I was pretty annoyed even angry about was the location in Rainbow in the Dark. That was a **** move, absolute malicious, totally unfair and crap dungeon mastering. It sucked the motivation and fun out of the whole thing. That is a death penalty in every p&p party. I hope you never DM a group in RL. No one deserves such a dungeon master.

Titus.

PS: Without fan run discords this event would never have been finished in a timely manner, because SSG doesn't provide a good communication base.
PS2: Never claim again that you are not designing based on reaper. That is an outright lie.

I wish the invaders didn’t appear at the same time as each other so I could have a shot at killing an illithid with my schedule but I still liked the event overall.

Thank you to all who provided feedback. For our part in this is finished. We provided the devs/producer valuable information to consider.
I remain hopeful that the next event will be even better. Looking forward to it.

I managed to convince a friend to come back to the game telling him about the event before it started. He finally tried on day 3 and after about 2 hours told me "sorry this is just not fun, I can't even finish a quest on hard with these thralls." He didn't want to be told "how he sucked and that he just needed to adjust tactics." Because that is what you are saying... "if you aren't good enough then you don't have to play." If you think making people not wanting to play helps a game I have no idea what to tell you, enjoy the game when it dies with that type of attitude.

I'd rather call out SSG for not even testing the thralls out and doing such a poor job of implementing this event. Players need to stop acting like nothing is wrong "just ignore the man behind the curtain." I get it though... your a thrall of the devs and don't even know it.

The event luckily will be over soon and we can all get back to normal. It might take 2 years to get my friend to try again. My other friends I was trying to get back to the game heard about his experience and were like... "nahh hard pass."
They should have limited the new champs to reaper only. The Ilithids could only be found in reaper. It would have made participation more of a choice for more casual players. Coming back to this game is hard enough, sad to hear your friend had such a negative experience.

On a personal level, I must say that I don't have the feeling as if I had participated there at all.

This is due to the fact that I play nowadays primarily once in a week via a "guild run", and apart from that, I'm currently not doing much with DDO.
It might be different in different times, but this is now.

We came across several thralls, which were interesting, as they stood out, and were much harder than the rest of the enemy groups.

We also came across lots of paralysed enemies, I don't know whether this was part of the event or not.

Apart from that, I had nothing of the event. So, I can't say that I felt like participating.
To me, it just came and went.

Most spectacular - and as a long lasting memory well remembered, was that dark sky, that violet colour of the environment. That was kind of ... creepy.

Personally, I would have preferred it if there had been something that really made me feel like "I'm participating".
But, as I read that the unlocked quests were Legendary Only, I felt kind of locked out, which quickly let me lose my interest in the event. I just didn't care anymore. Because I just couldn't play the quests anyway.

Great for those who liked it and could play it, but rather "meh" (or "baa" like sheep do it) for me.

In the end, this event left me with very mixed feelings.
The environment light was spectacular,
but all in all I felt very much closed out.
Like in "there is nothing to do for me. I don't even know if I had just participated because there was no special loot, nor special enemies appearing apart from the thralls".

Sorry for the grammar.

Edit : What about this "cards thing". I never saw one. Was that a Legendary Only thing, too ?

The four new quests drop cards that can give small stacking bonuses to existing gear. It’s not wildly powerful outside of a few niche applications (one possible effect makes the weapon its on into a Favored Weapon for divine shenanigans).
The quests are legendary (and genuinely harder than most legendary content) but the cards that make those benefits are unbound, so you’ll still be able to get them pretty easily and they can be applied to both low level and high level gear. I’m definitely going to be plopping those bonuses onto my ML1 goggles of true seeing + Master’s Gift and my Feywild/Barovian/Sharn leveling gear.

Yeah I've been thinking of doing up some low level gear too. I've got a ML1 reaper helm from BL that all 5 alts wear from 1-10. A nicked GS I use from 2-9 on 3 of 5. Ratcatcher use from 8-20 on 2 of them, etc.

I'm still probably going to curse up my cap gear and hope it just adds some stuff. But potentially very powerful for commonly used leveling gear.

I’m not going to go nuts with trying to cleanse and re-curse the same items to try for the perfect curse set, but I am going to curse every kukri and greataxe I get my hands on in case I manage to make one a favored weapon. Then it’s Paladin time.

Same, if I get somethng useful , hooray, it's a little bonus I didn't have. If not, oh well, it doesn't ruin the gear piece.

Yeah I've got a pally alt.......and that curse is.........INTERESTING if you can land it on the right weapon!

I doubt there is a considerable number.

I completely understand the sentiment, but why would anyone with that mindset ever favor a MMORPG over all those way greater single player games? That is strange.
Well, I do. I play DDO because it's DDO, I don't bother about other games that are not even D&D.

Thanks, I didn't know that.

I have no hate towards the mind flayer invasion. It is an excellent story hook with tons of potential, especially for high level characters. My initial reaction to the announcement was excitement. However, it quickly became very clear that none of my many characters are sufficiently powerful to participate. The entire event was like watching super heroes and heroines do their thing while I sit on the sidelines and watch. That's fine accept for the fact I come here and pay money specifically to play a super heroine. The developers working on this event failed me in the most fundamental way possible. Whatever. Life goes one. I finished some lovely sculptures while not playing DDO. :)

In the spirit of this thread...feedback!

1) When a mind flayer invader dies, perform an immediate check. If the level of the highest level player character in the dungeon is greater than the level of the quest, the following happens:
a) The mind flayer says, "You soggy sock adventurers will never catch me! HAHAHAHAHHA!"
b) The mind flayer teleports away.
c) A message appears in chat saying, "The mind flayer used its amazing mental powers to detect a wringer and teleported away. Princess Peach is not in this castle. You blew it."
Note: Now everyone can particpate in the event at any difficulty.

2) When a mind flayer invader dies, perform an immediate check. If the level of the highest level character in the dungeon is equal to or lower than the level of the quest, the following happens:
a) The mind flayer says, "Wait! What? How!?! Mine is the superior...gaaaaahhhaaaahhha."
b) The mind flayer dies.
c) All player characters in the dungeon get a buff that reads, "Your amazing awesomeness will be told of in poem and song for at least the next couple hours. You defeated the mind flayer invader GRXGILGRApNITCHSTUFFBUGGERKINS. You really deserve a cookie and should probably go find one."
d) The defeat counter for GRXGILGRApNITCHSTUFFBUGGERKINS is incremented by one.
Note: Now everyone can particpate in the event at any difficulty.

3) When a mind flayer invader dies, perform an immediate check. If anyone in the party has the 'You defeated GRXGILGRApNITCHSTUFFBUGGERKINS' buff, the following happens:
a) The mind flayer says, "I now live in your dreams...as a nightmare! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
b) The mind flayer disappears.
c) A message appears in chat saying, "You already defeated this mind flayer. You are a self important narcissist who overly dwells on fleeting fame. Penelope Peach has no interest in you and everyone thinks you smell."
Note: Now more people can participate in the event and kill the mind flayers so they feel good about themselves and can hug teddy bears with knoweldge of a job well done. "You don't have to worry about those mind flayer meanies anymore, Mister Fluffycheeks. Mommy stabbed them to death."

4) Add the following text to Thrall buffs: "Force and untyped damage bypass this buff. You did purchase a bunch of Spectral weapons during Mabar, right? Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Evovation Archmage Wizards actually matter! Yay!!!"
Note: If I ever knew that force and untyped damage bypasses Magical and Physical Resistance Rating, it was bumped out of the memory banks by a grocery list or cassarole recipe or something. Good grief. You developers are such gigantic dorks.

5) Mind flayers should taunt player characters through their thralls. Make up one hundred random insults and program thralls to toss them out in chat.

6) Unlocking the new super difficult dungeon should be per account, not per server. Make every single player do the work to open the dungeons. Let all of us be super.

7) Upon unlocking the dungeons, I should be given a Nautaloid skin for my airship.

8) Upon killing, say, 500 thralls, I should get an M-16 with an M-203 grenade launcher. I do not mean everyone, just me.

9) Write up the background story so the event feels interesting and dangerous and awesome for everyone. Good grief. I wll write it for you. Next time, drop me an email or something. Sheesh.

10) If a player character killed at least one mind flayer during the event, give him or her a permanent feat that reads, "You have faced off against the most intelligent species in the universe and, by some preposerous miricle, actually prevailed. This feat does not actually do anything but, 'Good Job!'.

There are a bunch of single players D&D games. Bunches and bunches of them. Games that are much closer to the D&D rules set than DDO is.
Noted. But time is very limited and I can barely play DDO. Also, I really like the Eberron setting, most games tends to be in Forgotten Realms. I'm happy like it is, and when I join a party I usually find great people to play with.

First of all Thanks to SSG and Devs from bring a new way to have fun and entertainment, the event was really good and fun plus rewards are good while bring together collaboration from all ppl playing to solve the mystery of the invasion. Is a good strategic way to keep the interest in work together as a team. In my perspective there is a couple of things that maybe be fix for the future events like this that help to improve the in game experience for many ppl.
1) One is the way of the information was provided at the beginning of the event. In my opinion I believe if we can get more information about it will be great like: where is happening the invasion in terms of places or where is not happening Market place, sharn, harbor or where to look specifically not the quest but at least the area we can find them that will help us to not loose time looking where is nothing. Reason for this, because many ppl have time to play according their schedules; work, university, schools , etc. and don't have a lot of time for guess and play areas they don't need to because they don't like or they don't want.
2) How many times we have to force the illithids to go back?, if they are going to be in the same place always once they are discovered?, level range like lv from 20-32 quests apply? or all levels can apply?, if all levels apply gives participation to the low level adjusting the bonuses according to the levels like, crystal cove, night reveal, etc. in term of the cards not the loot like +1 bonus minor curse for the low level and +2 bonus or major curse for the legendary so everyone can participate of the event and get their rewards properly according their playstyle and lv.
3) Not force players to play Reaper Difficulty if they don't want or don't like the challenge, because many ppl enjoy just play the game and be chill not trying to get many reincarnation to gain extra abilities, are not properly geared or don't have time for it.
4) I like they way you guys introduce the decks of many curses with the extra bonus effects on the gear, however is a waste of time run many times the quests getting enough cards for 1 effect and gain a effect that is not according to you class or don't know what is going to be the effect to properly add to the correct piece of gear. You can get another piece of gear and try again but is more time waste not getting the desire effects, because the only way to do another effect on the piece of gear is getting a new piece of gear or find the card that cleanse the effect that drop 1 in a million so is not very common with no guarantee when you cleanse your item is not going to get the same effect that you cleanse; Example i clean my cloak from +1 transmutation dc curse and when try again to curse the item got +1 transmutation dc effect again the same effect that took me a lot of hours and resources to clean. So that's not fun and not worth spend soo many hours and resources to get something diff and get the same useless thing for my Barbarian build.
5) On the other hand, this dungeons are EXTREME CHALLENGE dungeons is on the window when you select you difficulties. Players are warn that if you ae going to play those dungeons is going to be very difficult. I see many ppl complain about reaper diff or revamp reaper diff, etc. NO ONE force you to play in Reaper diff, is a OPTION for ppl that achieve higher power on their builds and want to CHALLENGE more themselves to see how good they are in the game. We have to respect those ppl that like challenge as much we respect ppl that don't want it, so that doesn't mean we have to nerf everything and remove the fun of many ppl who want more challenge, because the other half don't want challenge. I think the diversity of diff in game is good for all areas is just we need more information about and once everyone understand the things how supposed to be it will be better for everyone.

Thanks again I enjoy the vent.
