Runes

I am stuck on "The Waterworks".
There are two runes wisdom and intelligence that I cant get past - "You don't have enough intelligence" ??

Anyone any ideas please - I am very new to this (less than a month)

They're both dead end hallways with a chance for a rare encounter.

From ddowiki.com - The Waterworks:
The Intelligence rune to reach Gnarkill requires INT 14.
The Wisdom rune to reach Crumble requires WIS 14.

A hireling wizard or cleric could open them.
You can also buy INT/WIS +4 potions from Jalin Kalabrey<Potion Vendor> in the center of The Marketplace if you have 10 or more into those stats.

Just to be sure it's clear: Those open up completely optional areas, they are in no way needed to complete the quest.

Dont I need 6 rare encounters to complete the task - I can only get 4

The wilderness zones are not quests. The objectives there are completely optional. Yes, you get more loot and exp from doing them, but not doing them will not stop you from progressing through the game.

As Vryxnyr says, the explorer or wilderness area "quests" are completely optional. Yes, they give xp and some minor loot, but they are not needed in any way to get further in the game.
