Given that Hasboro owns WotC and DnD IP, I knew before these rumor even came out that WotC is not looking to sell "their" IP. :D

If Tencent did acquire the IP, and considering they own 30% of Larian, conceivably Larian could be tasked with overseeing overall brand decisions. Imaging how intimidating it would be for SSG to have to account to Larian. :ROFLMAO:

This is no different than Day Break partnering with WotC to offer Magic the gathering in 2021

This does not mean it is being sold. WotC owns the IP and makes it's money off the licensing fees.
This is how business is done before one company buys out another. Tencent owns 300+ IPs, many of which are games. league of legends ring any bells? Of which Tencent just recently sacked a large number of its developers.

So yeah... People are right to be concerned. Tencent is one of China's largest tech companies, which is really just another front for the CCP. Do you remember Huawei? Similar situation but with telecommunications and networking. They've all but been banned from doing business in the US / EU, over security concerns. While Tencent isn't a direct threat to security, it's influence on western media and entertainment could be just as dangerous.

Let's see, WOTC itself has denied those rumors. Then it must be said that the premise did not make sense, it's not just that D&D is one of Hasbro's golden goose, it's that Hasbro is investing a lot of money in its VTT project for D&D, and wouldn't be doing it if they weren't going to keep the IP.

Tencent has worked with Hasbro on digital adaptations on many Hasbro IPs (as Magic, you put that link from 2018), and will likely continue to do so. But Tencent does not own those IPs, the owner is still Hasbro.

In addition to that, Tencent owns its own IPs. True, but it's beside the point.

If you want to continue believing rumors that have no evidence, and ignoring the WOTC denial, then that is up to you.

You need to ask yourself, why would Tencent be in negotiations to licenses anything if they are planning to outright buy the IP.
Answer: They wouldn't

Why would Hasbro/WotC sell their prize winning cash cow.
Answer: They wouldn't unless they plan to go out of business.

Tencent is a big player in gaming but mostly mobile games.
Goddess of Victory: NIKKE, VALORANT, and Triple Match being their top revenue earners in their gaming sector.

We can't entertain speculation based on internet sources but we can make confident determinations of the opposite based on internet sources.
If something has value, it makes no sense to sell it for money, a priori impossible.
Official statements by companies is real life, bank on them.
Given uncertainty in the world, there's no reason to negotiate rights if you *want to outright buy the thing.
And the whole thread is false even though it says X and not X.
