I'd say... D&D design + Power Scaling with some positioning and issues with the AI throw in for good measure are the big reasons why summoner builds aren't effective. Even in PnP summons were never meant to effectively replace your main character like in some other franchises. In PnP and DDO...

There is a small part of me that is kind of neat to see folks try to unrandomize the puzzle. If it can be solved... will be for the greater good. Not the most fun farm, but trying to search for the silver lining, gives plenty of time to those that really want to see an invasion point before...
