DDO debugging issues (as crowdsourced by many players advice)

The last person I recall with that issue was their WiFi. https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?threads/harbor.4622/

You might try adjusting your connection speed setting to see if it helps any:

I've found editing the UserPreferences.ini in your documents folder>DDO with the connectionspeed line manually edited can help with load times. Mine is personally set to (be sure to backup the userpref file before you edit it):
ConnectionSpeed=10000.00
Connection speed setting info added.

Added bitrate audio change suggestion for sound crashes.

If you have the audio crash bug, I'd appreciate it you could check this setting on your computer in your control panel>sound>your audio output>properties>advanced tabs. See if you're at 16bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality) and if so change it to 16bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality). If your game is already running, reboot it. See if it still crashes from the typical quests/locations that are bugged with audio (Dread, Smash & Burn, etc.). I don't know if this will or won't help any given setup, just testing/passing along a potential solution.

If you're already running at 16bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality) and crashing, say so here. If it stops your crashing or doesn't stop your crashing, post with your results. Thanks.

If you crash every time right before character select, or if you crash when zoning, it is possible your loading screen files are corrupted. They may look fine in windows explorer but blow them away anyways and let them patch back in. They can be found in \Dungeons and Dragons Online\raw\en\logo

Curious, you have responded to my post a couple weeks ago, there are a number of things going on now and they all started the day I logged in after Lammania went live.

1) User name is missing in sign in game updated anytime I try and change a setting in the launcher, like unchecking the multi instance box, then reverts right back to being checked.

2) Once I sign in I have to agree to the terms of service, and direct x11 option check yes.

3) once in game it goes to the movie and my settings / audio and graphics are not set to my last setting.

4) have uninstalled 4 times on steam and with out steam. I deleted every file that I know of that has Ddo or standing stone games. re install same thing every time. I removed one drive after you responded to my post couple weeks ago. Im at a complete loss, also not very techy here.

once last thing under setting in the launcher, under repair utilities I tryed to select display adapter to my nividia card, then hit ok it blinks dl's somting then goes to the sign in, when I GO back into repair untilities its right back to automatic. *** LOL

That included deleting the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online folder where all the config files are saved? Assuming so, it sounds like their could be some permissions issue going on with that folder. You removed onedrive, so it's not overwriting those files again and again. I assume you've tried running the game as admin. It could also be your anti-virus blocking DDO from writing those files (You can check whatever anti-virus you're running to make sure DDO has exceptions).

This'll be an odd thing to try, it worked for some folks for an different issue in SSG's sister game LOTRO; it helped some folks where running as admin the normal way didn't work; so this is just a try and see attempt with this suggestion (I don't expect it to work, but with weird stuff in an old game like DDO, sometimes odd things work):

UPDATE - I managed to get it working again by doing the following EXACTLY:

Hold shift and right click on the launcher Click “run as a different user” When the new window comes up (prompting for new username and password), cancel it. Again, hold shift and right click on the launcher Click “run as administrator”

For whatever reason, simply right clicking the launcher and running as admin didn’t work, but taking the steps above specifically suing the shift key works perfectly.

Hopefully that will help anyone else that may be having the same issue.

So as for the DDO folder/standing stone. everything is in steam the only thing I can find in my computer is UserPreferences.ini

In your mydocuments folder, there will be a 'Dungeons and Dragons Online' folder; DDO keeps that UserPreferences.ini and other files in there (beyond what's in location you installed the app). You might try renaming that entire folder (you could delete but rename will let you change it back later if you want) and let DDO recreate it.

Gotcha, I renamed it, the only thing in that folder was the userpreferences. Im about ready to do a clean install lol I can play the game its just more an annoyance than anything. Once again thanks for taking the time to help the community.

There should be several things in there. That you're only seeing UserPrefs make me assume it's a permissions issue and nothing is getting written in that folder correctly.

I assume that weird method for running DNDLauncher.exe (do a hard drive search for that file and run it directly with steam closed/fully exited) as admin didn't help you any?

yea none of those are in there, I did out of the four times I re installed twice I did it with out steam, thinking that was partly the issue. I try and re install again with out steam this time. Its quick only about 20 minutes. I know from the past unistalling or deleting all folders in x86 and documents that pretain to dnd standing stone is important however when its on steam I dont have any of those folders just the one mentioned earlier

If I go to allow app

it shows that

dndclient public
dndclient public
dndclient 64 private
dndclient 64 private
dndclient 64 private
Dungeons and Drangons online private public

all the above have a checked box

Just waiting to hear back about you trying:
Exit/close steam. Do a file search for DNDLauncher.exe on your drive
And trying:
Hold shift and right click on the launcher Click “run as a different user” When the new window comes up (prompting for new username and password), cancel it. Again, hold shift and right click on the launcher Click “run as administrator”

So one thing im noticing, that Dnd folder in documents still only has the UserPreferences.ini
and I know for a fact in the past as Ive been playing here since late o6 my UI AND user pref were in there

It seems likely there's some kind of write permissions error or something blocking your ability to write/keep files there; but you've tried all the typical things that cause issues for DDO and that type issue. There could be some 3rd party software interfering that others don't normally run making it obscure and hard to figure out.
