I still think I would make all the perks permanent but also add a generous base amount too .eg

VIP base xp uplift +10%
earnable +1% per year

VIP base named item drop rate +10%
additional +1% per year

Increases the value of VIP for everyone and rewards long term loyalty.

VIP buddy bonus +5% per person
additional 0.5% per person per year

Add a cap of 3-5 years and you have a great system that will make a ton of players sub.

One update: We will be doing away with the requirement that you remain VIP in order to summon/use the trail or mount, once you've acquired it, it's yours.
Good change. Felt a little bad the way it was originally presented. Might considering coming up with a new mount each year and incentivize people to stay that way.

nice change in the right direction

also, i personally don't care (atm and hopefully in the future) but talking about really real rl issues, like if a player is deployed, hospitalized, whatever, and can't log for months....

i'm perfectly aware that from a business point of view "dude it's your problem i don't care"

i'm also aware that from a business perspective it is about having the players logging in regularly....but this is daily rolls prerogative btw...

if it is a "loyalty" program, you should grant its rewards to e.g. the people who paid upfront for 12 months even if they have not logged in. you know, they paid upfront for x months. business-wise.....what more loyalty are you asking for?

i mean, if you paid but you don't log in once a month to claim the reward you are busted...that sounds wrong.

New question: Is the trail/mount only on one server or can they be claimed on every server once unlocked?

Reading through the comments I feel like if these become better and better the longer you are VIP, then I think there is a good path here.

I tried to envision what it would look like for the next 48 months. Below is a grid of what could be? (or maybe not...)

If you look below, the rewards in some cases get progressively better, and by the end of 48 months, you have:
  • 40 more Inv slots (bonus for each year you keep ddo active as VIP)
  • DDO Points in month 1 of each year getting progressively better (500 month 1, 1,000 month 13, etc...)
  • Bag of many things getting progressively better (worth 500 month 2/5/10, 1,000 month 14/17/22, etc...)
  • 4 new free character slots (that we should be able to keep)
  • Durability that maxes at 100% by the end of year 4
  • Crafting that gets progressively better from 10% to 25% in year 4
  • 10k worth of DDO points for +20 hearts over 4 years (greater VIP bag)
  • a new mount each year and new lag adder (lightning this time)
Thoughts?

A nice turnaround, but still needs some tweaking if you want to get anyone that was on the fence or unsubbed and wants to want to sub again. Everyone else doesn't care about any of this and is going to vip already. You could literally scrap this entire program and replace it with nothing and the amount of people that were going to vip would change by like....5. Some ultra low amount of people that might vip just for the cloud.

1 - The small bags of holding are bad. Omnispell, ethereal rest shrine, flawless dragonshard, glamerdust, mirror of glamering are all worthless. Omnidust people might use as a joke instead of just throwing it away. Please replace these with...SOMEthing of roughly the same value as the raid bypass timers. What about a new item that resets your gold roll? Could get 10 of those or something. Smaller xp pots like 20%, something people might actually use.

2 - Any permanent boosts should be given from the very start of vip, not doled out over 12 months: Shared bank, character slots, 10% durability (also make better or replace this), crafting boost, loot boost. Then, fill in the other months with an (improved) small bag and/or better stuff as well. Maybe instead of having people choose from items that cost ~150 pts, just give us another 150 pts/month...

3 - As evidenced by all of the confusion from the way this system works, is this 12-month npc turn in the only way it can be done? Can't just give it to us? It should also give you EVERYTHING right away if you sign up for 3, 6, or 12 months.

Still think most of these rewards are very bad. Maybe if the 1% loot bumped up to 2, AND/or a little more XP. Even if it's another 5% to vip, or another +1% buddy boost or something. But also all of the little bits would have to be given up front, not spread out over 12 long months.

Additional Suggestion
4 - VIP jr.: Half price and not include the adventure packs, just stuff that helps with questing (xp, saga skip).

I'm warming to this idea, but I know me, I'll go AFK for several months throughout the year & I loathe the idea of having to remember to log in to progress...though oddly, I'm fine to leave my subscription going. And going AFK generally leaves my wallet fatter, so if you can sell me some way to collect the months I've missed, you'll give me an excuse to give you more support.

I'll probably only buy VIP the months I can play and just progress slower...but if SSG wants my lazy money and gives me a catch-up mechanism...well, tell me now so I can get the yearly subscription started?!?!

Interestingly, I now think the staff gets incentivized based on the number of active accounts per calendar month, hence the monthly check-in. There's probably some data relating revenue to active accounts & possibly most of us are older with some disposable income, so they can probably generalize most accounts. Though frankly, there is not enough content and/or LFMs to keep me active every month of the year. Plus, I recently hit reaper cap, so kinda hard to motivate myself to play...I've morphed into a cc/heal bot to basically just help others. (plz take the lazy money;)

It would be nice, if someone have been playing DDO as a VIP for 10+ years would have some kind of pin (like a mini DDO logo or a little dragon logo) next to their name since the new VIP program is not retrospective and it would be a nice gesture from SSG to salute and express gratitude to those players who always supported the game. Thoughts?

I also suggest that add a Card of Cleansing into the lesser and the greter Bag of many Things.
If someone purchase VIP and got 1-4 possibilities to choose a cleanser card (which is of course bta and cannot be sold or transfered out of account) that would be great and would raise the value of the bags and VIP.
Cleanser Card is something very rare, cannot be bought in the DDO store. It has got high value in the community. It wont be overpowered if VIP would be able to get a few cards/year to get 1-4 more chances to get better curses on items.

Card cleaner is the new toy that some are obsessed with, but these new toys lose their luster very quickly. I don't see it as a good long-term benefit. Although it is better than the omnispell dust lol
Some of us love cursing some of us hate it. But it wont hurt to add 1 card into the bags. You can choose other items so it is not something you can have 100%. You have to make a decision and sacrifice other items if you chose something from the bag.
Also the card only offers you another chance to curse one item which can be even worse than the existing curse you already have.
So I think it is a good choice of a bag.

New Always-Available VIP Perk!

We’re adding a new always-available VIP perk related to spell swapping. While you are VIP you can swap spells in any public area, and you don’t have a cooldown when changing spells at the trainer.

Does that mean that spontaneous spellcasters like the sorcerer can change all their spells at once, multiple times a day? Do you realize, SSG, that this completely eliminates one of the few disadvantages of being a spontaneous caster? Do you realize that prepared spell casters like the wizard are actually already penalized because you unfairly favor super specialization? And now you give one of the few generalist caster perks to specialists?

No, you have to think about this.
Thinking on this, it's even worse. Wizards have all these "rare scrolls" that you can't just buy and learn. Meanwhile, Sorcerers can now just go to a trainer and learn any spell they want, any time they want.
I really don't like this part.

It seems like a horrible unbalancing perk to me, yes. It's fine to be able to change spells in public areas, but spontaneous spellcasters have to have a cooldown, or they're destroying prepared spellcasters.

Well, they've been destroying generalist spellcasters for a while with their design (ahem, equipment, ED mantles designed for specialists, etc.), but that perk would be the last nail in the coffin.

That VIP spontaneous spellcasters can change spells faster than non-VIP ones, ok (although in my opinion VIP should not give advantage to the classes themselves, that is not QoL, that is giving power to the class), but not without cooldown, devs.
