Thought I would chime in with my story here too. I have been playing DDO since 2009. I have been F2P except for one year where I splurged on VIP and then realized that I was not really getting enough value for the money. Some of the biggest advantages ended up not being helpful to me or actually drawbacks (I will extrapolate below).
When the new VIP program was initially announced I thought to myself... welp this will be the year that I will finally subscribe, but sadly after looking at the bonuses I will stay F2P. I really want to support SSG, but the value is just not there. I will continue buying the expansions on the 4 accounts I play on, but VIP is still not enough.
Here are some thoughts about the current offerings and some suggestions of things that would draw me in.
Bonus VIP XP: This is awesome... until it is not. The guild members I play with are not subscribed and I end up losing the value here. I end up having to bank the extra levels and lose xp while the rest of the party catches up. Therefore I have to run the extra quests anyway.
Open on Elite: Also a huge draw, but since I only play one character and have TR'd multiple times I already have this (for free). The one area that it would be helpful would be hardcore, but that is not my cup of tea, so I would never benefit from it.
Weekly Gold Rolls: I really enjoyed these when I had them daily, but I cant justify $10+ per month to maybe get an xp pot, slayer pot, or cool cosmetic.
Extra character slots and bank storage: This is very nice. Since I have lived without it for so long it doesn't really make a difference to me, especially knowing that I would pay for it monthly and then lose the benefit if I ever decided to not be VIP. I would much rather just buy points and get character slots or space unlocked (which I have and leads me to my next point).
500 points per month. I have played long enough now that I have basically everything an account can purchase from the DDO store. There are some nice things like xp pots or slayer pots that are fine, but again, I run with a static group that chooses not to purchase those things. I typically just save up points and buy the next little quest packs that come out and just from running past lives I have plenty of points to do that. I typically save up for stuff that I chose not to purchase in the ULTIMATE editions of expansions as well such as destiny tomes or AP tomes.
I realize that there are other benefits to the program, but they don't cut it for me. I really do want to support this awesome game, so here is what I think the VIP program needs to draw me in.
1. More convenience: teleport items, teleporting to quests in explorer areas, guild ship access anywhere (permanent beacon)
2. Basic expansions included with VIP that I can upgrade if I decide. (I realize this has implications if I unsub)
3. The ability to make Iconic Characters at level 1
4. The ability to make Iconic Characters an archetype
5. The ability to change the class of an iconic character without using a +x heart of wood
6. Better free stuff each month (which brings me to my valuation of the new VIP loyalty program)
VIP Loyalty program
The items that are offered in this pack are honestly terrible. The ONLY things that are nice are +20 hearts (which I don't buy anyway) or raid bypass timers. The other things are all given to me in droves by silver rolls. If I am going to buy into a program like this, the rewards have to be better. What sucks is now you have lost me forever by setting the course for the first 12 months with garbage I don't want because when the 13th month comes out with something I DO want, I will never buy 12 months of the service just to get to it in a year.
